Patient Expectations
It's normal to have some discomfort and swelling for several weeks. Most patients return to normal activities, including exercise, in about two months.
What to Expect
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. An incision is made along the inner arm from the armpit to the elbow, and excess in the armpit and side of the chest can also be addressed. Tissue layers are tightened and closed with dissolvable sutures.
Your arms will be wrapped to reduce swelling, and you won't have drains. You can shower the next day, and Dr. Jones's team will teach you how to massage your scars at your first post-op visit.
Who It's For
- Have sagging skin or fat on the upper arms
- Have lost significant weight
- Are at or near a stable goal weight
- Are a non-smoker in good overall health
FAQ
Will I need liposuction too?
It depends. Dr. Jones may recommend liposuction during your arm lift if you have fat deposits on the triceps or around the armpits.
Do the scars fade?
Incisions are placed in discreet areas under the arms, and Dr. Jones will show you how to care for your scars so they fade as much as possible.
How long is recovery?
Incisions typically heal in 3–4 weeks. Most patients return to normal activities, including exercise, in about two months.
Do smokers qualify?
An ongoing smoking habit will disqualify a patient for an arm lift.
