Fat Grafting Consultation
Fat Grafting Consultation
Aging inevitably means loss of tissue volume in many locations of the body. At the same time, the fat that’s lost in one place seems to accumulate many times over in others. Wouldn’t it be great if you could transfer it? Cosmetic plastic surgeon Christopher Jones MD can graft fat, quite literally, from one part of the body to another. Call today to find out if this procedure will help you achieve your cosmetic targets, or book a consultation online.
Fat grafting, also known as a fat transfer, is the most natural way to add volume and contour to your body, in the most minimally invasive way possible. With fat grafting, you can:
- Define your buttocks
- Enhance your breast size
- Contour your jawline or cheeks
- Smooth out your lower eyelids
- Minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles
- Have fuller lips
If you have acne scars or surgical scars, or sunken areas from a prior liposuction procedure, fat grafting can help smooth out your skin and make those imperfections look less noticeable.
What happens during fat grafting?
Most fat-grafting procedures are performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Jones simply needs to make a few small incisions, usually in your abdomen or inner thigh, to extract fat. He then runs the removed fat through a filtering and rinsing process to remove any impurities.
The final processed product is a pure liquid fatty tissue that’s ready to be injected into a more desirable area. Dr. Jones strategically injects your fat into multiple spots in your treatment area, to ensure fat spreads out evenly.
How long is the recovery after fat grafting?
It’s normal to have some bruising and swelling after a fat transfer, which can continue worsening for the first three days. In most cases, you can start returning to your normal activities within 7-10 days, but you may still have some limitations, depending on your treatment area.
For more complex fat-grafting procedures, like the buttocks, Dr. Jones may suggest avoiding strenuous exercise or lifting too much weight for at least a couple of weeks. You should be completely healed and newly located fat should be settled within a couple of months.
Is fat grafting permanent?
Your body absorbs some of the injected fat — anywhere from 20-50% — after your procedure. This is why Dr. Jones often overcompensates and injects more than needed. Any correction that remains after that point is usually considered permanent.
